Bury FC goes cashless with main sponsor tappit

The Energy Check Stadium at Gigg Lane will implement cashless payments for Bury fans in a groundbreaking move for UK football clubs. The club’s away shirt sponsor, tappit, provides cashless experiences to sports events, festivals and other entertainment venues across the globe and now brings the benefits of its platform to Bury.

Four of the club’s concessions will accept cashless payments; the Members Suite, Starkies Restaurant, Social Club and Retail Shop with branded NFC-enabled cards. Membership cards will be issued to fans who can preload funds and enable them to enjoy matchday without any cash in their pocket.

Commercial Director, Matt Caren, was hugely excited to bring technology to the club: “The opportunity to offer our fans the chance to go cashless at Gigg Lane was such an exciting prospect for us. Utilising the expertise of our Main Club Partner, it gives us the chance to collect data on our supporters, find out more on buying behaviours and learn how best we can communicate with our fans moving forward.”

tappit CEO, Rob Groombridge, was equally enthusiastic. “When we first spoke to Bury about sponsoring the club we discussed taking the stadium cashless and were delighted to find a club that was keen to embrace our technology. We look forward to giving Bury fans a great cashless experience for years to come.”
